How to use the LFG system 101
Submitted by Berzdex on Thu, 2007-04-12 08:44First of all ther are 2 shiny buttons you are greated with when you enter the system. The LFG button and LFM button (looking for group and looking for more). These to buttons open to pages but you can chose to switch between these pages using the tabs on the bottom once you have selected one of the options.
Lets discuss the LFG page first. Here you can select 3 instances that you wish to group for, or raids, or a group quest. At the top there is an "Auto add members" check box. Now this option is good if you want to be the group leader(better choice if you already have people in your group that are going with you) or want to join an existing group but it usualy knocks you out of other group possibilites. So I usualy leave it unchecked. I pick the three instance i want to go to (usualy my first pick instances). But I dont stop there.
Note that there is "Comment" section at the bottom. This is where I type a comment about my spec or heroic etc or what classes I am looking for if i am the group leader. For example as a Feral/Resto Hybrid I type in the comment box "Tank or Main Healer" or "Resto Druid looking for Heroics" or "LF2M Tank and DPS".
Now when a group leader sees my name on the list in LFM page (more on that later) he will see my comment when he highlights me. Since I have left the "Auto add members" check box unchecked, I will not immideatly join a partialy filled group making my chances for finding a group greater. Once I have completed my choices for LFG I move on to LFM.
The LFM tab is ideal for groups that already have some members(guildies, friends, etc) and want to pick up a few to complete the group. But its real strenght lies in the hands of a single person searching for a group. Remember you have already selected three instance, group quests, raids, etc that you are interested in doing. But everyone knows that there are more than three choices that you may want to do. Use the LFM tab and cycle through the other instances, quests, raids available to you using the pull down menus at the top.
You may find a group that is looks almost complete and who can choose to send a tell to the leader if he needs your class and build. Also if you find players not in groups on the list, you can whiper each one and ask them if they are intrested in the instance you wish to run (dont invite them until you have 4 people who agree to go because if you invite them it will kick them of the LFG list they made).
Cant find anyone on the list, thats okay, just go quest or if you choose spam general channels or trade channels in cities, because you will still be on the list for your first 3 choices in the LFG page and will be seen on the LFM page for those guild runs that need 1 class.
Thats it. Remember that the Comment box and the Auto Add Members check box are the most important things you need to succesfuly join a group. Write down your spec and if you want to do Heroic in the comment box. If you are a group leader write down the classes you need in the comment box. The auto add member check box will try its best to match up a group but is better left unused.
Sorry for any spelling or grammer mistakes. I wrote this down in a hurry at work.
