My PvE Rogue Guide Enjoy :D

Jaticus’s PvE Rogue Guide

All the time I see guides on PvP Rogues. But more often I am asked how to be an excellent PvE/raiding Rogue. I will explain in the way I wish it was explained to me when I started, and that is as thorough as possible.

What Your Job is:

Not pulling aggro! Let the tank do his job. You need to realize that as a rogue your goal is to remain in the shadows of foe’s that can sometimes hit you from 3k-20k (that means your dead and no help to anyone).

Note: In simple terms, aggro is the hate of the monster. You want the monster to hate you as little as possible.

A good PvE Rogue should NEVER pull aggro. We luckily have excellent tools to help us manage our aggro. As you get better you will find even feint and vanish though sometimes necessary wont be needed near as often.

Damage! That is the purpose of our class in a group, and we can do it well. Some of you may be frustrated that other classes seem to be contributing more than you are. Negative, you just need to harness the skills of such a great class. Read on to find out how to do it without pulling aggro.

White Damage, and Burst Damage:

White Damage is your focus, and the rock on which you’re DPS stands, your sustained damage. What is it? It is the damage your weapons do, notice the white color of the text when you auto attack. Your goal is to get that damage as high as possible. Via skills, gear, enchants, gems etc…

Burst Damage is a BIG NO and actually provides less DPS. You want burst damage in PvP where you want to end a fight as quickly as possible. In Raiding though your not going to be taking down mobs with 200k health fast now are you? Consistent and Steady is what you want (White Damage). Burst damage builds aggro quickly with attacks that fluctuate rather than give the constant sustained DPS you want.

Examples: Spec'd into Ambush etc...

Stats, Skills, Gear, Enchants.

Stats: Whats more important Attack Power, Agility, Strength, Chance to Hit, Chance to crit? Brace yourself….They all are. Get as much as you can of all of them. If I had a choice though, this is the order of what I would want:

1. Attack Power

2. Agility

3. Chance to Hit

4. Chance to Crit

5. Strength

Skills: Must have in order:

1. 350 First aid

2. 350 Poisons

3. 60 Cooking (for thistle tea)

Gear: refer to stats.

Professions: Not going to list all the benefits just some that come to mind.

Blacksmith: Sharp Stones, Fireguard (sword)

Mining: Easily Rogues are the best at it.

Jewelcrafting: Pendant - Nightseye Panther

Engineering: Shocker Cables, and other Fun toys

Alchemist: Pots, Elixirs, Flasks.

Enchanter: Ring Enchants

Leatherworker: Armor, some way nice patterns.

Herbalism: Swifthistle, Blinding Powder

Enchants: This is what I put on my items:

Head: Glyph of Ferocity (Cenarion Expedition Revered)

Shoulders: Aldor or Scryer exalted shoulder enchant

Cloak: 12 agility (Greater Agility)

Chest: Stats or Health

Bracers: 24 attack power (assault)

Gloves: 26 attack power (assault)

Legs: Cobrahide or Clefthide armor

Feet: Agility or Minor Speed

Main Hand Weapon: Major Striking, Mongoose, Crusader, or Agility.

Off Hand Weapon: Mongoose, Crusader, Agility.

Daggers, Swords, Fists, or Maces

This is a big question, and one we have all asked, the answer? What you like best. I have had Sword Rogues, Dagger Rogues, and Fist Rogues tell me up and down that theirs is the best, and in raids all of them are by/on the top of the DPS meters. So I will discuss the pros/cons of each and you decide.

Daggers

I was daggers for a long time, and loved it. I still collect them as I go as I love to PvP with daggers and switch back to do my arena matches.

Pros:

-Lots drop; there are some great ones available through quests, instances, and reputation.

-If you like Backstab, and Ambush I say rock on.

-Daggers give 5% to crit.

Cons:

-Unfortunately in raids you have to worry about positioning with all your attacks. You can’t very well backstab in the front of an opponent. This should not be a problem to often I raids, in farming though it is a nuisance.

How to choose?

Main Hand: Try and get a 1.80-2.00 Speed. The slower the weapon the higher the damage, that means the higher you hit for with white damage, backstabs, and ambush.

Offhand: If you are going Mutilate try and get the same speed as your MH, if you are not go with what you like. I would get a faster one 1.40-1.60.

Dagger Talents: From Wowwiki

Mutilate/Evenom -41/20/0- PvE Variant http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=wMe0oExoizVoGcVb0V

This is one of the more common builds as people hit 70 because it is so much fun to play and very competitive in terms of dealing damage. DW Spec actually improves Mutilate damage. While it's not as much as opportunity, it improves white damage so much that this is the #1 mutilate build for sustained dps.

Envenom and deadly poison adds a lot of damage as well since they
