Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
Submitted by Benny on Sat, 2007-03-24 11:38.Until last week, I was one of the top-ranked warriors on my World of Warcraft server’s PVP ranking list. After dozens of end-game dungeon runs with my guild, I had finally amassed nearly all of my class armor and was proud of my gear. I spent countless hours spent raiding and perfecting my PVP skills, and there were few other players who dared challenge me in the arena. As my guild’s main tank and PVP officer, I organized all of our raids and trained up-and-coming players on key offensive and defensive techniques. All of that changed last week, however, when Blizzard permanently closed my WoW account.
It all started a few weeks ago when I decided to buy some cheap WoW gold from a popular gold selling site on the internet. As the guild’s main tank, my gear took a quite a pounding and I was constantly in need of gold to repair my broken armor and weapons. I was tired of grinding for hours each week, just to earn enough money to barely cover my expensive repair costs. When I saw an advertisement for “Cheap WoW Gold”, I figured it couldn’t hurt to check it out. The website promised to deliver virtual WoW gold directly to my warrior’s in-game mailbox for a reasonable price, in real American dollars, of course. Considering how much I enjoyed the game and all the time I spend playing, I figured that buying cheap WoW gold was a good investment for my character. Buying gold meant that I wouldn’t have to farm for repair money anymore. I could spend more time raiding and helping my fellow guild-mates level up their characters. It seemed like a great idea at the time.
A week after my gold purchase, though, I received an email was from Blizzard, the makers of WoW. The email stated that my World of Warcraft account had been under investigation for possible fraud and that it was being permanently closed due to “exploitation of the WoW economy”. I was shocked! Just a single purchase of online gold had flagged my account and resulted in its complete shutdown. I contacted Blizzard to try and get my account reopened, but they stood firm on their stance that buying gold is a violation of the game’s Terms of Use. My actions were at direct odds with the “essence” of WoW, and there would be no undoing of the resulting consequences.
In a matter of moments, I had lost everything I had worked so hard for in-game. It didn’t matter that I was a top ranked player, a fully-geared level 70 warrior with a flying mount, my guild’s main tank, or a guild officer. Blizzard had wiped out my account as if it had never existed. The whole idea made me sick to my stomach and I immediately regretted taking the easy way out by buying gold. Still worse, though, was the news that my account closure destroyed the guild I had worked so hard to help build. My account closure left an opening for the position of main tank, causing a major battle to erupt amongst the remaining end-game warriors over who was the most qualified to take my place. This fierce infighting caused the guild to fracture and, as a result, many long-standing guild members left to join other groups. Just five days after my account was terminated, the guild officially disbanded.
If I had known a few weeks ago what I now know, I would have never bought WoW gold. Any small temporary benefit it provided me was not worth the ultimate price I paid for my indiscretion – the complete and permanent closure of my WoW account. I learned the hard way that the easy way out is often the most risky, so think twice before purchasing cheap WoW gold for your character. Are a few extra virtual coins really worth the risk of losing everything?

Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
I think Blizz should sell wow gold it would quad-druple there profits.Make it simple for ppl without a life to spend there real money on something they love doing. Why should these other companys make a prophet off of blizz product. And at the same time put gamers at risk of loosing there accounts or charters. When that would be a $300 loss to the blizzard company. All im saying is blizzard should sell gold them selves,Then they can afford to make more additions to WOW and make it bigger and better with lots of options.
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
yo guys its the geek with a word of the wise.
the right way
so you work a job 40 hours a week. you EARN A PAYCHECK and can be glorified that you can pay your bills.
the wrong way.
lets buy a pound of dope and make thousands in hours instead of busting your ass and earning it.
price you pay: years in jail
sucks to be is all i have to say be lucky your getting banned instead of years in prison.
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
I downloaded 100g for my level 28 night elf hunter just over an hour ago for £1.71, but after reading some of thease storys I am a bit worried, however someone said that it only flags you if it is large amounts of gold you are downloading. AM I SAFE FROM THE GAME I LOVE THAT COULD DESTROY MY ACOUNT??????
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
i have a lev 24 blood elf hunter and one day i logged on and i had some new mail, so i went 2 mailbox and found that i had like loads and loads of mageweave cloth in my mail!!!!! i sold all of it on AH for like 26g! i was amazed i went and bought like good armor and weps off AH and i still have 12g left! i could not believe it
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
The theory that its a bizzard employee is interesting. But a bit far fetched however, i know for a FACT that blizzard does not and more importantly CANNOT be banning players who buy gold the way most people believe. Firstly, alright if you're stupid enough to buy gold every week or something then your going to get caught and banned. However the one off purchase maybe every six to eight weeks would most likely not flag up your account. If this was true then i could get any sad person banned by just sending them a bunch of gold. Secondly, if you buy large amounts say in the 1k+ area its also kinda obvious (especially when coming from some lvl 1 random) and you probably deserve to get caught. But blizzard surely can't possibly trace all the gold transactions made by mail and therefore anything in the <800 gold region is not likely to flag up your account. Thirdly, this is the first report i've heard of someone getting banned for a single/first attempt at buying gold. I actually do know of someone who was "under investigation" this was because he had been had been stupid and doing the things mentioned above (e.g buying large amounts close together) but he was never banned or had his character deleted. All he got was a time-out where he couldn't log on for a couple of days.
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
There's no difference between spending money on this game as a hobby and spending money on model trains, stamps, coins, collectibles, wine, or whatever you enjoy doing in your spare time. If it's what you like to do, more power to ya.
If it starts taking over your life however, then you have a problem. The question is, is it the game's fault or YOURS? (Hint: That should be an easy question...)
Having Blizz make it easy to get money or higher level items and such is absurd. What's the point in playing the game then? It's the journey of the game that is the core of it, and that's supposed to be the fun part! Not just getting to the end immediately so you can have all the "cool" stuff. If you find it's too difficult or takes too long, or if it is instant gratification you seek, then find another game that suits you because WoW is not for you. It's that easy- that's all there is to it!
I started playing a little over a week ago with a 10 day free trial. I will probably subscribe until I get bored with it just like I did with Runescape.
It is, after all, just a game, ya know? If it ends up making you sad, angry, depressed, or anything other than overall enjoyment, DONT'T PLAY!
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
gold farmers didnt ruin Everquest so BUGGER off all you self rightous maniacs who think yours is the only opinion that counts, it's a game so stop gettin off on other peoples mistakes!
The amount of guys that seem to enjoy others making a mistake that cost them everything is sick. all You who say you read thr full agreement that comes up when you load the game .some of you might have but fact is most people don't. And most gold farmers will tell you "you won't get banned for buying only selling gold" lies! this still does not warrant the termination of a 70lvl toon that took so many hours to make. this is extreme-banning for 30-60-or 90 days seems much more fair butt then again blizzard is not worried about fair just the iron fisted rule of their justice.
all this said I do think buying and selling gold is wrong but it's like a death sentence for speeding. NOT FAIR PUNISHMENT FOR THE CRIME!!!
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
That does seem like a harsh penalty, however, Blizzard is just protecting their interests. Who wants to pay a monthly fee if the game is rigged, where someone can just buy their way up?
If they lose control of that, then it's likely they will lose subscribers.
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
You people are fucking crazy, it's just a game.
Blizz probably wants people to play more to spend more $ and people just want there shit fast. Buy the gold and get over it if you do get caught, so what, if you really cared about expenses, then you wouldn't be playing the game in the first place.
p.s
Read a book haha
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
Man buying gold is not the name of the game and yes your account should be banned forever if you do so.I play and enjoy playin Gendorf (Spinebreaker) knowing that people can't cheat and if they do well so be it.If you can just buy your way into a game ,stick with xbox and down load your cheat's and have fun by your self not at other people expence thats why we pay 20 dollars a month or what ever it is.
Sucked in to game cheats lol
Blizzard stick to your guns
what proffesions make easy gold
THE GATHERING ONES OF COURSE
If you take mining and skining as your proffesions you will be able to sell ingredients at the AH for people who have tailoring, leatherworking, and blacksmithing. For example blacksmithing uses the gems, and ores in found by miners for creating equipment. Luckily there will be people to lazy or to weak to mine the veins. So bars/ores/gems will sell quick at high prices. Skining gets materials for leatherworking, tailoring and even blacksmithing. Almost all beasts will have hides/leather for you to sell quick at high prices at the AH.
Herbalism is ideal for making money to, one way to make quick cash in this proffesion is to gather stranglekelp which sells at 2silver per piece at the vendor. This can be found by even at the low lvls. These are found mostly at wetlands on the west coast, and also be found abundently in darkshore.
Remember, up with farming and grinding!! Down with buying gold!!
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
If you actually believe that the OP is a WoW player vis a vis a Blizz employee than I think it is time to go back to ***I am teh ghey noob 101** kthnxbye
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
I bought WoW gold a few time. Never got cought but i stopped doing it for fear of Blizz finding out. It makes more sense to work for your gold. Then you can feel proud that you have earned it fair and square.
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
buying wow gold IS NOT WRONG and u should NOT get ban for buying it .think of it more as buying the time that other people put into the game, people pay over $300 a year to play this game so blizz should not be bitching about gold buying blizz has about 9 mill players at $300 per year thats like 27mill a year!,if they were smart they would open a blizz run gold store or lower the costs of the epic mounts that range from 100G -5200G!!! all blizz wants is for people to spend countless hours playing there game. i have a 68 pally and id rather spend $10 buying 100G and geting it in a few hours and haveing fun with my frends then spend all day cooked up in my house killing junk in zangermarsh all day! BLIZZARD ARE A BUNCH OF SELF CENTERD ASSHOLES WHO WANT ALL THE PROPHITS FOR THIS SELF I GESS THEY TAKE THE 27MILL THEY GET EACH YEAR AND WHIPE THERE ASS WITH IT if people want to wast there time on wow farming then selling the gold they have made in the game to pay for the crazy costs of this game this post was cleerly made my a blizz worker come on
(Still worse, though, was the news that my account closure destroyed the guild I had worked so hard to help build. My account closure left an opening for the position of main tank, causing a major battle to erupt amongst the remaining end-game warriors over who was the most qualified to take my place. Just five days after my account was terminated, the guild officially disbanded.)and (I learned the hard way that the easy way out is often the most risky, so think twice before purchasing cheap WoW gold for your character. Are a few extra virtual coins really worth the risk of losing everything?) a wow player would be yelling his ass off and bitching about how unfair blizz is THEY JUST CANT LIVE WITH OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE PAYED THE CRAZY $300 TO PLAY THERE GAME MAKEING A PROPHIT OFF THERE GAME IF THEY DIDINT WANT SHIT LIKE THIS TO HAPPIN THEY SHOULDIND HAVE MADE THE INGAME MALE SYSTIM WHEN IM SHURE THEY NEW STUFF LIKE THIS WOULD HAPPIN I THINK THEY WANT US TO SOLO ONY PUG,ZG,MC AND AQ TO GET ARE GOLD LIKE COME ON A EPIC FLYING MOUNT IS LIKE 10 TIMES ONYS LIFE SAVEING
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
300x9mill is not 27mil its 2.7bil
Was that first post really by a player...or just so blizzard employee.
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
im sry for ur 70...although it was wht u deserved. i always report EVERY wow seller that pst me with freaking long and spammed stupid offers
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
plain and simple just like real life, the game has laws. You make a decision to abide by the law or not. if not, its not illegal till you get caught.
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
For all of you players that are bitching about blizzards policies in the Terms of Service WHY DO YOU CONTINUE TO PLAY? As for the gold buying who cares its JUST A GAME!!! And if your dumb enough to spend real money on fake money I pity you all. Play the game and have FUN, that is the reason you originally bought the game. Don't take it so seriously or it will consume you and your life. There are much more important things in life to worry about then who got banned for what in a video game!
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
well it is hard to have funn and kick butt when i have no money even if your a hunter haveing to buy arrows pet food and ur mana drinks and with no money u got to repar your armor to . I think blizzard should make a site them sels that allow to buy gold cuz poeple like me or others would love to have monay cuz were poor in the game .
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
It may be true that blizzard is a profiteering corporation,
It may be true that people who grind for cash need to get a life,
It may be true that some people have more money then others,
It may be true that gold sellers and buyers affect the game economy, making it unfair to newer players and inflate prices,
It may be true that the gold buyers have lives and money etc.
The plain and simple truth is, when you installed the game, you agreed to the terms of service.
If you are banned for violating the ToS, then it is your own fault. You entered an agreement with blizzard, designed in part for the profits of blizzard entertainment and its shareholders, that you didnt adhere to. Legally you got what you deserved.
If you don't like it, don't agree to the terms of service, and dont install the game.
The point of the terms of service are to make the game FAIR for EVERYONE that plays. You gets what you pays for, and that applies to time spent in game farming cash etc. Buying gold outside of the server, whilst convenient, is unfair to the people who are unable to buy it due to lack of funds etc, and whether or not they are jealous is irrelevant, you are still the assholes that couldn't give a damn about the effects of your actions.
As far as I'm concerned, everyone should do whatever the hell they want; PROVIDED they are willing to pay for the costs of their actions.
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
How about making a savingings account on wow. Put in some money every level and then when you need your gold for your mount go to the bank and take out money. Put in a stock market and inviest ur gold in bussinesses in wow.
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
LOLLLL... ITS PATHETIC. PAY FOR WOW MONEY? LOL. I LIKE YOUR DELETED ACCOUNT
REGARDS
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
damn it justgod damn make a new accout and buy the gold onto that 1 then slowly ssend the gold to your main account :OOOOOOOOOOOOO end of conversation
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
... you're a jackass. you can't 'make and account' without buying another copy of the game, and he would have to buy two accounts to send money to one.
Spammers
I would say I couldn't care less what people wanna do w/ real money from the real world to make there virtual experience better.... However Blizz must be involved in the spamm/selling of gold or they would have fixed the trial account spamming issue by now that is the only annoying thing to me. And i doubly agree w/ the guy who said buy from someone you know in RL that has to much... Dont help support the stupid chinese farmers that are running 32bit sweatshops its rediculous but they try to ruin every game there has ever been mmo anyway so %#^$ em
Re: Spammers
I definately agree with this thought who cares if you want to be stupid and use real money to spend on A GAME!! and if the god damn chinese wanna ruin this game like every other one then screw 'em and let them. you bought this game to have fun so just have fun and don't let it take over your life. I even heard the in Japan and China they are only aloud to play certain hours of the day because they skip work to play the game......WHAT THE #%$^ IS WRONG WITH THEM.
good-bye

Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
oh come on guys --dont you see..this thread is 100% made by someone of blizz. lookt at the style and the moral he is trying to teach us..dont buy gold...its bad. pffffff anybody who believes that this is a real article..well wont comment on that.
fact is ..blizz can trace ingame goldflow of 500+ easy. fact is that they cant just close your account without letting you have the opportunity to explain what happend (its in the TOS).fact is ..yes it is not allowed to buy gold ..so if you get caught..like our master pro warrior dude here- (still think you are a blizz programmer) dont spend time in forums telling other people about what happend to you, complainig about your own stupidity...my advice next time dont get caught or start playing fair..if you really were such a super pro nobody dares to challenges me fighter you could easily made the few golds with farming ..believie me i do it too.....bottom line .. in the old WOW fashion : WANT CHEESE WITH YOUR WHINE ?...........rofl
Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account

Re: Buying Gold: How I Lost My WoW Account
When you bought and installed the game, the Terms of Use said, "Do not buy gold." Everytime you download a patch, it says the same thing. Blizzard sends in-game mails to people telling them not to buy gold. You hear of people getting thier accounts banned for buying it all the time. Blizzard's website has reports about how many thousands of accounts have been banned for buying gold.
Then, you bought it anyway...
You're a tard as are those who are letting you QQ here and handing you a tissue. You got cought for doing something you were told serveral times not to do, and they did exactly what they said they would.
